What is a primary care physician?

Primary care physicians are like coaches, by coordinating and directing care in all aspects of your health. They listen to your questions, assess symptoms, discuss treatment options, prescribe medications and refer you to the appropriate specialist when needed.

What should I discuss with my PCP?

It is best to be open and honest with your physician regarding what’s going on with your health to ensure you receive the best possible care.

  • Are you experiencing any symptoms that interfere with your daily life?
  • What are the side effects of your medications?
  • Do you need help or information about making healthy lifestyle choices?
  • Are you experiencing stress, depression or sadness?

These are all factors that can impact your health and wellbeing.

What preventative care services are right for me?

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, an independent panel of medical experts, does extensive research to determine which preventive measures are most important and potentially lifesaving for specific age groups and genders.

Preventive health care includes a range of services and health screenings, such as:

  • A wellness exam, which is a routine annual visit to your doctor to evaluate overall wellness. For example, your doctor may check your heart rate and blood pressure, listen to your breathing and your heart, test your reflexes and check your skin for irregular moles or freckles.
  • Blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol tests.
  • Cancer screenings, depending on your gender and age group.
  • Discuss immunizations such as the shingles and pneumonia vaccines.

What should I do before my first visit?

Before scheduling an appointment, call and ask some preliminary questions to ensure that we can meet your needs. For example:

  • Do you accept my health insurance or medicare?
  • Does the provider have experience managing this condition or have a network of specialists they can refer you to? (If you have a chronic health condition).
  • Can medical labs and tests take place in the provider’s office or will I need to go to a different location?
  • What are the office hours?
  • What is parking like at your office?

What should I bring with me to my first visit?

Being well prepared for your appointment will ensure that you are provided with the best possible care. It will help alleviate any anxiety you may be feeling towards your first visit. It is best to bring in your insurance card, ID, and any prior labs, hospital records or documents from your specialists or previous PCP.  A list of the current medicines you are taking is also very important.

Do we offer same day appointments?
